Lake Merced Update -- February 2002

To:  Friends and Supporters of Lake Merced

Subject:  Monthly Report

After one of wettest Decembers in history, January came out dry as an old bone.  Just about 1.5" of rain, the lowest January level since we've been keeping track.  As a result, the lake basically held its own during the month, rather than the seasonal increase we normally expect.  But it's raining as I write, so maybe February will be better.

The planners are busy at work again.  You will find links to the PUC's Capital Improvement Program and the Rec & Park Department's budget on our web site.  The PUC plans on getting into the recycled water business sometime in 2010; we've told them we don't think that's good enough.  Rec & Park's budget is, as usual, largely undecipherable, particularly their capital plan.  At least they are beginning to budget by location, and that's a step in the right direction.  We're working on getting some better information.

At the bottom of the "What's New" page on our web site (www.lakemerced.org) you will find a link to the archive of year 2001 postings.  You might find it interesting to scan the progress we've made during the past year.  At least I hope it's progress.

The deadline for Daly City to qualify for state support for their recycled water plant looms near, so if you have any influence with the golf courses, or would like to give Tony Hall a nudge, please do it now!

See you next month.
